The Eight Beatitudes are not simply eight separate virtues. They form a hierarchy — a ladder of spiritual ascent, each rung presupposing the ones below it. St. Gregory of Nyssa called them a klimax: a progressive journey from the poverty of spirit that opens the soul, all the way to the persecution that confirms its transformation.
This examination invites you to look honestly at your interior life — not to condemn yourself, but to locate yourself on the journey. Where has God already been at work? Where is He calling you now? What grace are you being invited to receive?
Answer each question truthfully, as before God. There are no right answers to perform. The fruit of this examination is self-knowledge — the beginning of all spiritual growth.
